Organized by the North American Cultural and Art Exchange Association (CAE) and supported by the China Film Co-Production Corporation and the Beijing International Film Festival, the fifth China Film Exhibition recommended a total of 35 outstanding Chinese movies for exhibition, showcasing the robust momentum of China’s film market development.

The China Film Exhibition is committed to promoting outstanding domestic films to ‘go international’. By deepening the mutual learning of Chinese and foreign film cultures, facilitating exchanges among filmmakers, connecting high-quality resources, and narrating Chinese stories, it aims to expand opportunities for collaboration between Chinese and foreign films.

This year’s exhibition featured 35 films. Among the selections, movies that have excelled at the Chinese box office, such as ‘Creation of The Gods 1’, ‘The Wandering Earth’, ‘Meg 2: The Trench’, ‘The Battle at Lake Changjin’, and ‘The Battle at Lake Changjin 2’, have piqued the interest of international counterparts at the film festival.

In addition, a variety of genres, including films like ‘Never Say Never’, ‘Hidden Blade’, ‘I Am What I Am’, ‘Lighting Up the Stars’, ‘Heart’s Motive’, and ‘Sister’, are featured at the exhibition.

As a major feature of the China Film Exhibition, films based on Chinese domestic culture continue to hold an important position. The documentary ‘Return to the Red Flag Canal’ weaves the storyline from different perspectives. ‘The Lost Memory of the Lost Land’ is a documentary that depicts the endless love of the people of northern Shaanxi for their land.

All these films will further deepen the exchanges between Chinese cinema and the global film industry.

After two years of virtual live events, the 47th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) marks a big post-pandemic return to the physical realm from Sept. 8–18, 2022.

The fourth Chinese Film Industry Exhibition presented nine outstanding Chinese films at the festival, which have attracted much interest from filmmakers and publishers from different countries in the world. The styles and genres of selected films include patriotic heroes, tributes, co-produced animation, female action-suspense, and documentary. The diversity of the shortlisted films highlights the unremitting attempts of Chinese filmmakers to explore genre films.

Chinese film industry is booming. Many excellent filmmakers and production companies have their own understanding and vision on filmmaking and the great impact of storytelling. They are eager to share their perspectives on love, grudge, death and childhood.

2021 We are honoured to announce 9 excellent Chinese films, such as Chinese Animation film ‘Run, Tiger Run!!’ and ‘Beyond the Skies’, and Beijing International Film Festival participating in 2021 TIFF. These films tell wonderful Chinese stories and demonstrate the passion and professionalism of Chinese filmmakers.

2020 is an exceptional year. Due to COVID-19, the Toronto International Film Festival took place both online and on-site, while the Chinese Film Exhibition became part of its online platform. With the limitation of internet regulation, a total number of 8 film companies participated in this year’s Exhibition. The titles they presented included: Once Upon A Time In Huanghuatang, Wisdom Tooth, Young Sangyu, Soul Inn, Lost in Gusu City, RE: Promise, etc. These films delineated people’s choices and encounters in different times and different situations from different perspectives.

In addition to presenting excellent Chinese films, we also promoted Xiamen to the global film industry as the Best Movie Location in China. This new initiative is meant to promote integration of the world film industry and China’s tourism industry.

In 2019, the Association participated the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and was the first exhibitor presenting Chinese film companies in the Festival and successfully hosted the first Chinese Film Exhibition. A total of dozens of Chinese film companies participated in the exhibition, made connections with many peers and discussed about future collaborations.

In 2018, the association partnered with TIFF and presented Chinese film productions in promotion meeting and industry forum.
